ABOUT THE ANCHOR: H. Jay Spiegel enjoys cruising the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay in his power boat TWIN FOUNTAINS II when not attending to client matters. TWIN FOUNTAINS II is a Fountain 38' Express Cruiser powered by twin Mercruiser 500 EFI engines. With 1,000 horsepower available, she cruises at over 50 miles per hour with a top speed exceeding 70 m.p.h. The anchor shown on the opening page of this website is a tribute to Mr. Spiegel's love of boating and rests on the front lawn of his home at SPIEGEL'S LANDING at Mount Vernon , Virginia, on land once owned by George Washington. SPIEGEL'S LANDING sits on the banks of Little Hunting Creek, a creek that ran through the middle of the original Mount Vernon estate. In fact, before President Washington named his estate "Mount Vernon", it was known as Little Hunting Creek Plantation. Mr. Spiegel founded the web site at WWW.LITTLEHUNTINGCREEK.ORG, dedicated to the creek, its history and to the surrounding neighborhoods, all once the lands of our first President. The anchor was purchased from a salvage yard in Baltimore, Maryland and came from a 19th century pirate ship sunk in the Caribbean Sea. It is eight feet high and weighs 2,340 pounds without the shank. Its estimated vintage: around 1850! H. Jay Spiegel's Dachshund family included 9 miniature Dachshunds all of whom are related to one another, including Mercy (1991-2007) (mother, grandmother, and great grandmother), Solo (1995-2010) (daughter, aunt and sister), Mia (1996-2016) (daughter, sister and mother), Beau (1999-2013) and Lily (1999-2016) (twin brother and sister and children of Mia), Audra (2000-2014), Brooke (2000-2018), and Cassandra (2000-2016) (children of Mia and Beau (Whoops)), and Junior (2001-2012) (son of Cassandra and Beau (Whoops2)). |
